I heard footsteps. The door to my room was ajar 12 to 14 inches, so I looked to see who was coming into my room. I expected to see some literal, physical person.
But as I looked to see who it was, I saw Jesus. It seemed as if the hair in my neck and head stood straight up on end. Chill bumps popped out all over my body.
I saw Him. He had on a white robe. He wore Roman Sandals. He seemed to be about 5 feet 11 inches tall. He looked as if He weighed about 180 pounds.
He came through the door and pushed it back until it was almost shut. He walked around the foot of my bed. I followed him with my eyes – almost spellbound.
He took hold of a straight chair and pushed it up close to my bed. Then He sat down on it, folded His hands and began His conversation with me by saying,……
(Excerpt from “How you can be led by the spirit of God by Kenneth E. Hagin”.)
Good day to you, dearly beloved. It is with great joy that I write this to you again.
How I wish it was of myself I spoke about in the narration above but that wasn’t me.
And for the most of us who are children of God, it is not like that. Most times, God does not follow that route to talk to His children.
Even though He is ever ready to talk to us and he does this through different means.
In this blog post I’ll be talking about one major way God speaks to us, which is through His word, I mean the Bible you know of.

The primary way through which we can build our minds and train our spirits to hear God is through His word.
You can not enjoy continual fellowship with God where He talks to you and you understand and talk back to Him without a a good practice of studying and meditating on the word.
First, the word Helps you to know God’s mind, how He thinks, what He loves, what He hates, what He wants etc.
It is like someone who is wondering whether God wants him to be rich, but the Bible clearly says, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. – 3 John 2
Or someone who wants to get married and wants to know God’s mind about it, basic instructions about marriage are also in the Word.
Instructions, guidance and promises are in the Bible. If you want to hear God, He has spoken a lot to us through the Bible. Start with that first.
Read and understand it and obey the commands given in it.
Another importance of the word of God is that, it is what you have read that the Holy spirit brings to your remembrance when you need to hear them.
Such as when you’re faced with the challenges of life and the spirit of God brings this word to you;
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. – Isaiah 43:2
Or the devil could be bringing thoughts of death or sickness to you, and the Holy Spirit then brings God’s word that says “With long life I will satisfy you, and show you My salvation.”– Psalm 91: 16
At that point, that’s God by the Holy Spirit using the word to speak to you.
So the place of the word can not be over emphasized.
You can train yourself to discern God’s voice by having a practice of studying the word.
When you pray and open your heart while studying the word, the spirit of God talks to you and that’s how you train your mind to discern God’s voice, as it is the Holy Spirit who gives you understanding of the word.
If you have a practice of reading the word, your mind will gradually be renewed and you’ll begin to think the way God thinks, so there are instances you won’t have to pray before knowing the heart of God in that situation.
An instance is someone who is asking God whether He should forgive his friend who hurt him so much, when the Bible says it in clear times in so many places that forgive those who hurt you as God forgave us in Chirst.
Beloved, God talks through His word. Pay attention to that.
In my other blog posts, we’ll continue with other ways.
Keep enjoying fellowship with God.
